Chairman

Hi All,

COMMITTEE ELECTIONS – THIS WEDNESDAY (02/03/05)!

Remember to come and vote or alternatively print out the attached e-mail, fill in the form and post it in sealed envelope with your student number on to 116 Thornton Road.  The posted votes will only be opened when all other votes have been collected on Wednesday.

Currently compiling a section for the Athletics and XC club in the Staffs Uni yearbook.  We will be adding photos from races, socials, events etc. and writing some information about the competitions.  However, it is a rule that we must get permission from the people included in photos and written in the text so just writing this e-mail to ask if any one would request that they do not want to be mentioned or seen in the yearbook.

Well done to all that competed at the weekend at the BUSA Indoors.

To the rest of you: Keep training hard as we are looking to take a large squad to the BUSA Outdoors!

Men’s Cross-Country Captain

Athletes,

I hope everyone had a good time this weekend, particularly those of you who ventured North with us to the BUSA Indoors. Personally I enjoyed what turned out to be a weekend of quality athletics, many top-draw performance being pulled out by Staffs athletes. Im sure the details have been covered by one of our T&F Captains, so I wont bore you with repetition. Needless to say, WELL DONE!

On a more Cross Country note, we're presently in the process of sorting out teams for the Ed Prickett Memorial Road Relays on the 12th March. Each leg is 2.69 miles & there are 6 men to a team. Please contact me ASAP, via email or phone (07816 832144), if you are interested in competing. Its another Minibus excursion (Emads already got Shotgun), but its absolutely free, so theres no excuses for not coming along. It should be a cracker!

Look forward to hearing from you all,

Kind Regards,

Craig Taylor

Men’s Track & Field

Hi everyone,

What a memorable Busa weekend!

Firstly i would like to congratulate Kate Dennison and Chris
Tremayne who were our top performers finishing 2nd and 3rd
respectively in the pole vault doing the club proud in the
field.  With the inclusion of Paul Yeomans we probably had
the 2nd best pole vaulting club to Loughborgh which was
fantastic, hopefully come the outdoors the trio can go one
better.

Apart from our medalists my athlete of the championship
(for our university) would undoubtedly have to be awarded
to Laura Davenport in the 1500m who eased through her heat
on the saturday and adopted the perfect tactics of going
with the pace and 'holding on for dear life'.  The guttsy
run rewarded her with 6th place,a big pb and a significant
step up in class. Would just like to add that i said it
would be fast and spread out Laura :-)

Other notable performances included indoor debutant Richard
Kipkayno in the mens 3k who was at a considerable
disadvantage even before his race after contracting a heavy
cold the day before.  Deciding to compete only moments
before his event he battled hard in a stacked heat to smash
his pb which was not far away from a fastest looser spot to
the final of an event which was clearly the best quality of
the weekend. This was a very credtitable performance under
the circumstances.

Overall i was very impressed with everyones aproach to the
event, especially the less experienced athletes.  Our
middle-distance couple Edman & Mo definately gave it large
performance wise and were both spent, tired & sore by the
end of the weekend but am sure enjoying themselves in the
process and looking forward to a repeat performance in the
outdoors when we shall be staying 3 nights.

Now getting to the much talked/heard about prank/incident
at 2am on sunday morning.  In reflection i think the
severity of the prank was not really appropriate especially
as one particular individual (me) was very tired, drunk,
depressed and highly strung to say the least or on Craig who
had put a hell of a lot of effort into helping us all out. I
am in no way apologising for my actions (except
for initially accusing the wrong person..sorry!) as a
reaction was inevitable of waking the culprits up to fix up
our room whilst making them experience a similar experience
of being treated like a piece of excrement!  After a good
couple of hours sleep i am willing to forget the whole
incident ever happened as i am a good humoured person but
just make sure you think it through a bit better next time
when we go to Glasgow hey boys!!

I would like to express my gratitude to Craig for driving
and also Rich & Clare for holding the weekend together at
times.

Oh yeah don't forget wednesdays army social, edman is
providing the guns and grenades from the middle-east so
lets hope we don't have a 'staffordshire University Union
Massacre'!!!

f**k u f**kers!
